THE COSTS are astronomical. By itself the entry fee for the video game media form itself is $129 for the cheapest system, being the Nintendo DS, available. Then each game thereafter can cost anything between $20-$80.
Video games have always been looked as something juvenile and to be grown out of. A waste of time is what others say, twiddling their thumbs and saying "no good" in disapproval. And they're right in every sense. The innumerable hours wasted grinding away levels in some Midgar, stealing ethers from wolves (which just makes absolute sense, because everyone knows wolves carry bottles), pressing the same buttons, issuing the same commands as vegetation sets in and the rad beams off the screen.
The story sucks almost half the time. Its always some badly translated half-baked plot to attain power to make a notorious villain into a god-like nemesis. Stories of love that make absolutely no sense to the rationally minded, convoluted plots overfilled with characters, its just crap!
But, that's everything gamers love.
Vegetation is like a drug and gamers just cannot get away from it. The power high and the complete sense of separation can't be found anywhere but with games. Mowing down rows of goblins with walls of fire, endless slash n' hack combos, cinematic actions scenes that rival blockbusters, it the fantastical escapism only games offer.
The bullshit stories that can't be found in movies or tv. The cost of a big budget movie ranges from $80-100 million and games a quarter of the cost, averaging from $20-25 million. Developers and producers are willing to take more risks based on economics alone, risks that create narratives unique to games.

I agree with you. Game developers usualy do just churn out crap to sell. Look at Pokemon. There are still games coming out for it. "Why?!" is all I can say...
Yeah i hate videogames but more so because they are so addictive. All my boyfriend does is play Call of Duty. He was MIA for like 3 weeks when he first got it. Its pretty funny because me and my friends call video games relationship destroyers...
I agree that gaming is very expensive and I think that there have been studies that have shown the average age for someone playing video games has gone up a lot. It's men in their late 20s and up because those are the people who can afford them, not teenagers.
Video games are soo addicting. Some of them, however, haven't really provided anything new from the traditional slash and hack game, or RPG game. I like the Wii. It gave gamers a new abstract way of playing video games.

I agree with what you're saying. The cost of gaming systems are way too much! But people like me are addicted...well sort of...I'm addicted to guitar hero lol...with games like guitar hero and rock band people are willing to pay like $400 just for the system and its insane!
I really like this post, especially the sweet sarcasm in the language. But why make it so thoroughly skeptical? I'm sure there are games out there who are not that lame (though I wouldn't know which ones. Personally I liked playing Resident Evil-- but I'm not a Playstation person), otherwise, why would so many people be completely addicted to them. and hire people to play their characters when they're at work; like some do, for those 'round-the-clock online adventure games.

I like your use of the word "vegetation." I am assuming you mean the point in which when you've plain the game for so long your mind shuts off, you stop blinking, and your fingers move to the right buttons to keep the game going, aimlessly progressing from board to board. Yes , i know "vegetation!" I see the kids I nanny progress to that state at least twice a week, while glued to their playstation.
completely agree with you! I want a Wii sooo bad but I can't justify buying it for myslef. I'm forced to go to my friend's houses to get my fill of Guitar Hero, Mama's Kitchen and Wii sports! lol
I agree with you on that people spend countless hours of their day just on video games! and the costs of just one game can cost you a fortune but there is just something about them that draws you in. like when i start playing a new game i get obsessed and I wont stop till i beat it.
